Los Angeles based event production company, Retro88, Inc., announces “The First Annual Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival” to take place in Los Angeles December 26, 2005 thru January 1, 2006. The Festival will be the first Kwanzaa festival catering to a national audience and the largest event of its type in the country with plans to attract over 400,000 participants during the seven days of festivities.
The theme of the 2005 Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival is, “Love, Honor & Respect for All.” It will feature a formal opening night gala, music and comedy concerts, parties, a Carnival, Cultural Expo, Enrichment Seminars and Workshops, a Battle of the Bands, Fraternity & Sorority Step Show, and a New Year’s Day Concert.
The Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival’s Opening Night Gala will be a formal dinner, dance and concert with comments by the festival’s honorary master of ceremony and a key executive from select key sponsors.
The Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival will host a R&B/Neo Soul, Jazz/Blues, Gospel, Caribbean/African, Hip-Hop and comedy concert nightly, featuring internationally known recording artists and comedians, for five nights during the second through sixth day of the holiday.
The Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival will host five themed parties a night, including: a chaperoned teen party, a college party, a mature adult ole school style party, an international Mardi Gras styled party and a Poetry, Spoken Word and Open Mic lounge. The Festival’s five parties will assure that there is something fun and exciting for young and old to do nightly.
The Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival will host a fun filled five day carnival with a unique mix of rides, games, food and entertainment coming together just for the festival assuring nonstop excitement for the entire family.
The Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival’s Cultural Expo will truly be a first of its kind. It will feature a breath taking array of international arts & crafts vendors, major corporations, governmental agencies and nonprofit organizations selling and providing attendees a wide variety of goods, services and information. Cultural Expo vendors will be located in one of its six exhibit areas, including: the Experience Africa, Experience American, Experience the Caribbean, Kwanzaa Marketplace, Knowledge Village and the International Exchange exhibits.
The Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival will also offer attendees a choice of ten Enrichment Seminars & Workshops hosted by nationally recognized experts. A Battle of the Bands competition featuring marching bands from Historically Black Colleges & Universities competing for a year’s bragging rights. A Fraternity & Sorority step show featuring major Black fraternities and sororities competing for cash and prizes. The festival will culminate with a New Year’s Day Concert featuring performances by the biggest R&B, Neo Soul, Jazz, R&B, Blues, and Reggae acts of the year.
The Kwanzaa Music & Cultural Festival will only get bigger and better as time goes by, future events include: The Kwanzaa Invitational Basketball Tournament, The Kwanzaa Holiday Classic, The Kwanzaa Celebrity Golf Tournament, The Kwanzaa Film Festival and The Kwanzaa Achievement Awards. These events will be phased into the festival’s activities over the 2nd through 5th year of its production.
